Flow Trade AI in Nigeria: what SEC-NG rules mean for your account

The regulator continues to tighten how AI-assisted investing platforms operate for retail clients. Here is the plain-language version.

SEC-NG has spent recent years turning guidance into firmer rules for platforms offering retail clients access to crypto, equities and forex through automated tools. The direction is consistent: clearer risk warnings, firmer identity checks and stricter language around how returns may be described.

For someone investing a modest amount, the practical effect shows up mostly at signup: more thorough identity checks, an explicit risk acknowledgement and, in some cases, a short pause before your first deposit clears. None of this should worry you; it mirrors how banking rules tightened a decade ago.

What to actually do: confirm any platform you use publishes its terms and risk disclosure in full, check that withdrawals return to your own payment method, and treat any promise of guaranteed profit as the clearest warning sign there is.

Who the new rules actually affect

The rules target firms, not individuals, but the effect reaches ordinary account holders through the signup process. Existing members may be asked to re-confirm details already on file; new members should expect checks before the first deposit rather than after.

What changes at signup

An explicit risk acknowledgement, a suitability check against your experience, and in some cases a brief cooling-off period before your first deposit.

What does not change

Your money stays withdrawable to your own payment method, and no rule forces you to keep a balance you no longer want.

A short checklist before you commit

Read the risk disclosure in full, confirm withdrawals return to the method you paid from, check that the terms name the operating company, and treat any guaranteed-return promise as a reason to walk away.

Investing involves risk, including the possible loss of some or all of the capital you invest. The value of investments can fall as well as rise, and you may get back less than you put in. Do not invest money you cannot afford to lose.
